Yellowstone Bourbon introduces new permanent addition to family of award-winning expressions with Small Batch 107
Six-year-aged bourbon features bold proof to deliver intense yet balanced flavor
ST. LOUIS (March 13, 2025) – Lebanon, Kentucky-based Yellowstone Bourbon announced the release of Small Batch 107, a new permanent addition to the Yellowstone family. The elevated expression pays homage to the brand’s history while featuring several firsts for the family lineup. Small Batch is aged six years and the only variety in the Yellowstone portfolio to feature an age statement on packaging.
Bottled at 107 proof, the expression is one of the highest proof everyday offerings from Yellowstone. Due to the high proof, Small Batch is non-chill filtered, which allows the depth of flavors to stand out in this bold new bourbon. Yellowstone Small Batch 107 is available nationwide starting this month at a minimum suggested retail price of $44.99 per 750mL bottle.
Yellowstone Bourbon is one of the few bourbon brands available with a strong history of tradition and 150 years of continuous sales. To honor Yellowstone’s heritage and values, seventh-generation Founder and Master Distiller Stephen Beam crafted Small Batch 107 with expert care. As one of the most experienced experts in the industry, Beam made deliberate choices from the six-year age statement to the 107 proof point and more to create a new release that achieves the ideal balance of flavor and depth.
“Yellowstone was the top selling whiskey in Kentucky in the 1960s, and at the time, it was bottled at six years old,” said Beam. “I wanted to bring back that tradition and offer a product with a clear age statement, and the perfect entry level proof point at 107. This is a long time coming. We’ve had great success with special finishes but never had an age-stated product before Small Batch.”
Together, Small Batch’s six-year age statement, 107 proof point and non-chill-filtering process result in a bold flavor experience that’s great neat or over ice, and stands up well in a cocktail. With notes of caramel and vanilla with hints of chocolate and oak on the nose, Small Batch features intensified flavors of caramel, oak, honey and Yellowstone’s signature rich cherry notes.
“The higher proof brings out more flavors, and by non-chill filtering Small Batch we created a much more full-bodied product than a lower-proof chill filtered bourbon,” said Beam. “It’s the perfect addition to our family of offerings. Small Batch delivers on our heritage and tradition, bringing back memories of Yellowstone’s history, while also representing a natural progression in elevating the portfolio.”
As the newest member in the growing family of now seven highly acclaimed Yellowstone Bourbon expressions, Yellowstone Small Batch 107 joins the brand’s flagship 93 proof Yellowstone Select, which won Double Gold at the 2024 SIP Awards and Gold at the 2024 ASCOT Awards. Yellowstone’s Special Finishes Collection: Rum Cask won Platinum at the 2024 ASCOT Awards and Yellowstone Special Finishes: Toasted was awarded Double Gold at the 2024 San Francisco World Spirits Competition and Gold at the SIP and ASCOT Awards. Additional award-winning Yellowstone expressions include Limited Edition, Hand Picked Single Barrel and American Single Malt, which won Double Gold at the 2024 SIP Awards and Gold at the 2024 ASCOT Awards.

Penelope Bourbon expands its award-winning portfolio with Wheated
New expression’s proof and price points make it a quality everyday bourbon for all
ST. LOUIS (Jan. 29, 2025) – Penelope Bourbon introduced a new addition to its Core Series of bourbons with Penelope Wheated Bourbon. The latest innovation expands the Penelope lineup with an approachable wheated bourbon that delivers on versatility due to its proof and price points. Penelope Wheated is bottled at 95 proof (47.5% ABV) and available nationwide in February at a suggested minimum retail price of $39.99.
As the fifth core expression in Penelope’s Core Series, Wheated Bourbon diversifies the portfolio that includes award-winning Architect, Barrel Strength, Four Grain and Toasted. Wheated complements the existing expressions with a profile that strikes the balance between robust flavor and smooth drinkability.
“Wheated bourbons are more popular than ever, and we think we hit the mark with this one, from flavor to proof to price,” said Michael Paladini, Penelope founder and vice president of strategy for MGP. “It'll be a welcomed addition to our core line up."
With a carefully balanced mash bill of 74% corn, 16% wheat, 7% rye and 3% malted barley, Wheated delivers a rich, sweet character with a smooth finish. The touch of rye adds just the right hint of spice, resulting in an inviting bourbon with depth and complexity. Wheated opens with aromas of light oak, sweet corn, apple and pear; and includes flavors of vanilla, honey, caramel apple and hints of orange zest. The finish features lingering brown sugar, toasted oak and a touch of cinnamon spice.
“Wheated is the perfect addition to the Core Series portfolio,” said Danny Polise, Penelope founder and master blender. “With its 95 proof point, Wheated brings full-bodied depth and complexity. A balance in blending we’ve been looking forward to releasing.”
Penelope Bourbon releases rare American Light Whiskey
Special release of 17-year expression highlights both heritage and innovation
ST. LOUIS (Jan. 15, 2025) – Penelope Bourbon celebrates a unique chapter in whiskey history with its latest release of American Light Whiskey. This year’s rare release features whiskey distilled at 189 proof in 2006 at the historic Seagram’s site in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, which is now the Ross & Squibb Distillery. The whiskey was aged for 17 years in second-fill oak barrels and bottled at cask strength of 138.8 proof (69.4% ABV). The result of the unique distilling and aging process is a standout offering with a smooth, mellow profile. A very limited supply of Penelope American Light Whiskey will be available beginning in February in select markets at a minimum suggested retail price of $99.99.
In contrast to higher proof bourbons which can be bold and intense, Penelope American Light Whiskey is an approachable and refined expression. Due to the unique production methods and limited number of bottles available, it’s a must-have for collectors and enthusiasts.
"American Light Whiskey is always one of our favorite releases of the year," said Michael Paladini, Penelope founder and vice president of strategy for MGP. "We released a 13-year-old American Light Whiskey in 2021 and a 15-year-old in 2024. This year’s release will be a 17-year-old American Light Whiskey, which are the oldest barrels we have ever released. Rich and flavorful, this is truly a special whiskey, and we are excited to get it out into the market."
Penelope American Light Whiskey is crafted from a mash bill of 99% corn and 1% malted barley. With sweet and smooth aromas of butterscotch, cake batter and cotton candy, Penelope American Light Whiskey imparts flavors of brown sugar, vanilla bean ice cream and light orchard fruits. The lingering finish features notes of light butter, waffle cone and powdered sugar.
“This release is the result of an innovative chapter in the history of American whiskey,” said Danny Polise, Penelope founder and master blender. “The high corn mash bill and long aging really brings out unique character in the batch. It’s truly been a pleasure to watch this whiskey evolve with aging and be able to release this 17 year batch after our prior 13 and 15 year releases.”
Jack Daniel’s Introduces Limited Edition High Toast Maple Barrel Tennessee Rye Whiskey
Jack Daniel’s Distillery Series Selection #14 is finished in high-toast, no-char maple barrels, offering a memorable and warm experience
The Jack Daniel Distillery introduces the latest selection in its Distillery Series line of experimental whiskeys, a Tennessee Straight Rye Whiskey Finished in High Toast Maple Barrels.
Distillery Series Selection #14 begins with Jack Daniel’s traditional Tennessee Rye Whiskey grain bill of 70% rye, 12% malted barley and 18% corn and is charcoal mellowed before entering into a new, charred American white oak barrel. Once fully matured, the whiskey was then entered into a second high-toast, no-char maple barrel to finish atop Tanyard Hill for an additional three years to achieve a complex rye whiskey with a unique, lasting flavor. Initially released in 2022 as part of the Distillery Series, this rye whiskey was finished in a high toast maple barrel for an additional 20 months from that original release.
“Here at the Jack Daniel Distillery, we have the ability to experiment and pull different levers to innovate all along the whiskey making process, from grains all the way to the barrel,” said Chris Fletcher, Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller. “In this latest Distillery Series release, high toast maple barrels accentuate our award-winning rye whiskey while drawing out unprecedented seasonal flavors that lead to a special experience.”
The straight Tennessee Rye Whiskey has an aroma of tobacco and clove. Rich flavors of rye combine with notes of dried fruit, chocolate and caramel to build on a sweet maple finish, softening the peppery rye spice and creating the perfect sip for the season.
Heaven's Door Spirits Unveils Bootleg Series Volume VI:
Bob Dylan's Repertoire of American Whiskies are the Perfect Blend of Art and Craft
PLEASUREVILLE, Ky., Jan. 8, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Heaven's Door Spirits, the highly awarded collection of American whiskey from Bob Dylan, announced today the release of Bootleg Volume VI. The latest in this limited release series is a blend of exceptional 12-, 13- and 14-year-old wheated bourbons finished in Limousin cigar barrels and is presented in a ceramic bottle that features one of Bob Dylan's masterful paintings from his Brazil Series. This highly limited-edition straight bourbon is a perfect blend of art and craft.
The Bootleg Volume VI bottle features Bob Dylan’s painting, Favela Villa Candido, part of his 2015 collection, The Brazil Series. The artwork vividly portrays Brazil’s favelas and their community spirit, pairing textured browns and ochres with tonal greens and blues to evoke the style of Cézanne. The bottle is ensconced in a tawny orange volume inscribed with a quote from Dylan.
Alex Moore, Lead Blender for Heaven's Door, experimented with more than a dozen different types of barrels for the secondary finish on Bootleg Volume VI before finally choosing the cigar barrel. "A cigar barrel is given its name due to its tall, elongated cigar-like shape. The shape of this barrel provides more whiskey to wood-to-surface contact which yields more pronounced flavor notes," explained Moore. "Additionally, the Limousin oak is air dried over time versus kiln dried, which makes a big difference in terms of the tannins and sugars that are naturally resident in the oak."
Secondary finishing in the cigar barrels imparts notes of spice, dried fruit and toasted oak and are the perfect counterbalance to the softer, slightly sweeter notes of a wheated bourbon.
The Bootleg Volume VI bottle features Bob Dylan's painting, Favela Villa Candido, part of his 2015 collection, The Brazil Series. The artwork vividly portrays Brazil's favelas and their community spirit, pairing textured browns and ochres with tonal greens and blues to evoke the style of Cézanne—one of his favorite Impressionists.

Masterful Blending & Finishing: A blend of 12-, 13- & 14-year-old wheated bourbons finished in Limousin cigar barrels, creating a straight bourbon with rich and complex profile.

The Annual Van Winkle Whiskey Collection Returns, Yielding Additional Older Bottles in the 2024 Season
Old Rip Van Winkle and Buffalo Trace Distilleries confirm the 20 and 23-year-old barrels produced more bottles than typical this season.
FRANKFORT, Franklin County, Ky (Dec. 12, 2024) – Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery and Buffalo Trace Distillery are proud to announce the return of the Van Winkle Whiskey Collection. Renowned for its wheated recipe, the Van Winkle Collection features six distinctive whiskeys. The wheated recipe, favored by Julian P. “Pappy” Van Winkle, results in a softer, smoother taste profile that has helped the bourbon become among the world’s most coveted. Complimenting the bourbons, the Collection’s 13-year-old rye whiskey offers a more subtle spice due to its lower rye content. Excitingly, this year’s release includes a surplus of 20-Year-Old and 23-Year-Old Family Reserve Bourbons.
“There’s an incomparable feeling of joy that comes from finding a bottle of Pappy on the shelf,” said Julian Van Winkle III, President, Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery. “This season, we’re excited that connoisseurs have a greater chance to enjoy our older expressions, thanks to an exceptional yield from these barrels.”
The Van Winkle Collection vintages are on shelves now in stores, bars and restaurants across the United States at varying retail prices. Due to the extended aging process, which results in significant evaporation and lower barrel yields, supply is limited. The suggested retail prices for the limited-edition Van Winkle collection bottles are as follows:
- Old Rip Van Winkle Handmade Bourbon 10-Year-Old - $129.99
At 107 proof, the nose of this 10-year-old bourbon reveals rich oak spice layered with subtle hints of licorice and dark cherry. On the palate, a well-rounded body showcases deep flavors of oak, tobacco, and sweet fruit. The finish of this Old Rip Van Winkle classic is long and satisfying, with lingering notes of dark cherry and soft tobacco.
- Old Rip Van Winkle Special Reserve Bourbon 12-Year-Old - $149.99
Ripe stone fruit and chocolate dominate the aroma of this 90.4 proof bourbon, setting the stage for a honeyed sweetness on the palate. Balanced by gentle oak and a whisper of tobacco, the flavors meld seamlessly. The finish is slightly dry with a pleasant tingle.
- Old Rip Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye 13-Year-Old - $199.99
Roasted nuts, oaky vanilla, and ripe fruit highlight the aroma of the 95.6 proof rye in the Van Winkle family. On the palate, chocolate and spice intertwine with caramel richness and a touch of oak dryness. The complex finish showcases gentle baking spices and roasted caramel for a perfectly balanced experience.
- Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve Bourbon 15-Year-Old- $199.99
Untouched for 15 years and unhurried by time, caramel corn and vanilla dominate the nose of this 107 proof whiskey, offering a warm prelude to the palate’s sweet, smooth entry. Rich notes of leather, oak, and dark fruit add depth and complexity, concluding with lingering hints of spice and oaky tannins.
- Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve Bourbon 20-Year-Old- $319.99
Warm holiday spices blend with caramel sweetness and delicate notes of chocolate on the nose of this 20-year-old, 90.4 proof vintage. The palate delivers a harmonious mix of caramel, cinnamon sugar, and subtle spice, offering a rich, layered experience. A slightly dry and oaky finish reflects two decades of careful aging, leaving a lasting impression.
- Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve Bourbon 23-Year-Old - $449.99
The nose of Pappy’s 23-Year-Old Bourbon presents a perfect harmony of toasty caramel, soft cream, and nuanced notes of oak, nuts, and leather. On the palate of the 95.6 proof expression, vanilla, maple, and honey meet citrus and gentle spice. The finish is slightly dry, with a lingering balance of leather and oak.
The Van Winkle family reminds fans that neither they nor Buffalo Trace Distillery control the prices individual retailers charge for the expressions. The best chance to find Van Winkle products at a fair price is through lotteries offered by many retailers, where consumers can purchase bottles from the Collection at MSRP.
“Ultimately, the only legal and reputable source consumers should be buying from is a licensed retailer,” noted ORVW President Julian P. Van Winkle III. “This is the safest, foolproof way to ensure your bottle is not counterfeit.”
Whiskey fans increase their risks of purchasing phony bottles by purchasing from secondary markets and online sellers including Craigslist, eBay, and social media groups. Many alcohol scams take place overseas, and while rare in the United States, in some cases, consuming alcohol from outside the system can lead to bodily harm and even casualties.
Whiskey buyers who believe they have been scammed should not drink out of their bottle. They should also file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, contact their State Attorney General's office, and contact their credit card company about its fraud protection policies.
About Van Winkle Bourbon
The Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery has a four-generation history. The Van Winkle family’s involvement in the bourbon industry began in the late 1800s with Julian P. “Pappy” Van Winkle, Sr. He was a traveling salesman for the W.L. Weller and Sons wholesale house in Louisville. Pappy and a friend and fellow Weller salesman Alex Farnsley eventually bought the wholesale house and also partnered with Mr. A. Ph. Stitzel on the purchase of Mr. Stitzel’s distillery. The three of them merged the two companies and became the Stitzel-Weller Distillery after Prohibition.
In May of 1935 at the age of 61, Pappy opened the newly completed Stitzel-Weller Distillery in South Louisville. Its prominent brands were W.L. Weller, Old Fitzgerald, Rebel Yell, and Cabin Still. Pappy had a heavy influence on the operations there until his death at the age of 91. His son, Julian, Jr. took over operations until he was forced by stockholders to sell the distillery in 1972. The rights to all of their brands were sold to Norton Simon, Inc. Later, United Distillers, who eventually ended up with the Stitzel-Weller Distillery, sold off all of the original labels around 1999.
After selling the distillery, Julian Jr. resurrected a pre-Prohibition label, the only one to which the Van Winkles kept the rights, called Old Rip Van Winkle. He used whiskey stocks from the old distillery to supply his brand. Julian Jr.’s son, Julian, III took over in 1981 when Julian, Jr. passed away. Julian III has continued with the Van Winkle tradition of producing high-quality wheated bourbon. His son, Preston, joined the company in 2001 and the Van Winkles look to continue that tradition for generations to come.
In 2002 the Van Winkles entered into a joint venture with Buffalo Trace Distillery in Franklin County, Frankfort, Ky, joining the Van Winkle and Weller Bourbons again in one production house. It was a natural tie since the wheated mash bill used in the Weller Bourbons was already being produced at Buffalo Trace. All of the Van Winkle’s whiskey production now takes place at Buffalo Trace Distillery under the same strict guidelines the family has always followed.
